CES 2025 Guide: Intel to Power Large PC Refresh with New Silicon-Based Security

Businesses can move their computers into the AI PC world while confidently fending off cyberattacks with the updated Intel vPro Security platform.

Intel announced its most advanced Intel vPro platform at CES 2025, designed to meet the needs of businesses during one of the largest PC refresh cycles in history. With Microsoft ending Windows 10 support in October and the rise of AI PCs, the demand for modern, secure, and high-performing systems has surged. Intel’s new Core™ Ultra 200V series processors, codenamed Lunar Lake, power this updated platform, combining robust silicon-based security with seamless manageability.

“One of the reasons our customers are so interested to move to Windows 11 is because it’s the most secure Windows ever, and that starts with Intel silicon,” said Jennifer Larson, General Manager of Commercial Client Segments at Intel’s Client Computing Group. “IT leaders are doing everything they can to protect their business from being the next headline. Security software alone is no longer enough; silicon matters more than ever before.”

vPro Evolution: Two Decades of Innovation

Originally launched in 2006, Intel’s vPro platform has grown from providing basic remote management to becoming an advanced business-ready solution. Today, vPro offers integrated security, hardware manageability, and scalability for enterprises managing anywhere from a few devices to thousands.

“With nearly two decades of continued innovation, vPro has come an extremely long way from that 2006 moment because we’re listening to our customers and innovating to stay ahead of threats to ensure our platforms are built for business,” Larson added.

Intel’s new vPro platform reduces the steps for activation from 24 to just six, simplifying deployment for businesses.

Lessons Learned: The 2024 CrowdStrike Outage

The CrowdStrike outage in July 2024 highlighted the critical need for robust remote management and diversified security strategies. Millions of devices were impacted, causing industries like healthcare, finance, and transportation to experience extended downtime. Companies using Intel vPro were able to resolve the crisis within hours remotely, avoiding the delays faced by competitors.

“During the CrowdStrike event in July 2024, EMA (endpoint management assistance, or vPro) was an essential incident management tool. Once we identified the affected workstations, the support team connected remotely, resolved the issue, and eliminated or minimized user downtime,” said BLG, Canada’s largest law firm.

Miguel Angel Rodriguez Sanchez, Infrastructure and Client Support Manager at Grupo Financiero Banorte, Mexico’s largest bank, echoed this sentiment: “Thanks to the ability of Intel EMA and the Intel vPro platform to manage devices remotely, we had an immediate solution to efficiently resolve the CrowdStrike antivirus incident without the need to send technicians on-site.”

Built for the AI Era: Security Meets Performance

Intel’s updated vPro platform is built for the future, offering hardware-assisted security that is faster and more efficient than software-only solutions. It isolates sensitive operations and data directly within the processor, providing advanced protection validated by the MITRE ATT&CK framework.

Key features include:

  • Built-in Security: Hardware-level protections that are more resistant to cyberattacks.
  • Efficiency: Faster threat detection and mitigation with minimal impact on performance.
  • Flexibility: A new Intel Partner Security Engine enables third-party firmware integration, such as Microsoft Pluton.

“As we listened to customers and walked alongside them helping with their activation, we realized we had some work to do,” Larson noted. “Our goal was to make activation as simple as possible so if and when another outage, such as the one in July, happened, our customers are protected with our out-of-band capabilities and able to remediate without physically touching a device.”

Partner Ecosystem and Availability
Launching this month, the Intel vPro platform will feature on over 30 commercial computer designs from 10 leading OEMs, including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, LG, MSI, and Samsung.

As businesses prepare for the transition to AI PCs and enhanced security demands, Intel’s vPro platform delivers the tools needed to stay ahead in an evolving digital landscape.
