Samsung Introduces Auto Blocker for Enhanced Device Protection and User Choice

Samsung Electronics has unveiled Auto Blocker, a cutting-edge security tool designed for Samsung Galaxy users, reinforcing their commitment to security, privacy, and user choice.

Recently introduced as part of One UI 6, Samsung Galaxy’s expanding range of security and privacy enhancements, Auto Blocker offers an array of security measures that users can opt into, providing them with more customization options within the open ecosystem of Samsung Galaxy.

Empowering Users with Choice
Dr. Seungwon Shin, EVP & Head of Security Team, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, stated, “At Samsung we constantly strive to keep our users safe from security attacks, and with the introduction of Auto Blocker users can continue to enjoy the benefits of our open ecosystem, knowing that their mobile experience is secured,”

One of Auto Blocker’s key features is preventing the installation of apps from unauthorized sources, commonly referred to as sideloading.

ACtivating Auto Blocker can provide additional peace of mind by stalling the rise of social engineering attacks like voice phishing, where attackers could talk users into installing malicious software.

Sideloading provides users with enhanced customization and control over their device’s functionality. Those who actively engage in sideloading will experience no change, as Auto Blocker is initially turned off. However, for those less familiar with sideloading or extensive customization, activating Auto Blocker can provide additional security by preventing social engineering attacks, such as voice phishing, which could persuade users to install malicious software.

Auto Blocker offers a range of additional controls, including enabling app security checks to detect potential malware and prevent harmful commands and software installations via USB cable. This added layer of security can be vital in situations where someone may have physical access to a user’s device, such as when charging a phone at an airport.

This update also includes an enhancement to Message Guard, which mitigates Zero Click attacks involving direct image messages that hide malicious code. Initially launched for messaging apps from Google and Samsung, it now extends its protection to users of popular third-party apps, granting users more freedom in choosing the apps they can use safely.

Setting New Security Standards
Samsung is dedicated to providing a safer, more secure mobile experience for Galaxy users, and Auto Blocker represents a significant step forward. By combining top-tier security standards with user choice, Samsung allows customers to tailor their device to their preferences. Auto Blocker, the latest addition to Samsung’s suite of security and privacy innovations, optimizes the mobile experience for users throughout the Galaxy ecosystem.

Auto Blocker is now available on compatible Samsung Galaxy devices equipped with One UI 6, promising a more secure and personalized experience for users.
